Search Engines--Homepages
-
- All the Web - From FAST of Norway, a very quick, high-quality searcher. Good adult-content filtering system which is turned off by default.
- Alta-Vista - One of the best searchers there is, now with a plain-English query format.
- Dogpile - "Fetches" results from many different search engines at one time.
- exCite - Another very good searcher.
- Google - Excellent search engine which boasts a database of more than 1.3 billion webpages.
- Highway 61 - Sends your search to several search engines and collates the results.
- HotBot - Very effective search engine for pop-culture, news, and online culture. Run by Wired Magazine and Lycos.
- GO.com - Yields fairly comprehensive results.
- Lycos - High-yield search engine; seems to find more "technical" pages easily.
- Magellan - Good, comprehensive searcher.
- Planetsearch - Searches 12 other search engine sites at once.
- Webcrawler - Been around a long time, and still very good.
- Yahoo! - The most famous one. Good for general categories and lightweight searches.
