1P-122 - Film/Video Lab

This lab is the center of all Cinema production classes as well as TV and radio production and is comprised of the following areas:

The Cage

Provides full-service equipment rental for production students offering a variety of digital video cameras, 16mm sync/MOS cameras, super-8 cameras, digital still cameras, lighting kits, DAT and Nagra field recorders, a variety of microphones, tripods and dollies as well as grip, cabling, accessories and expendables.

DV Camera models include Panasonic DVX-100A, Canon XL1-S, Sony PD-170, VX-2100 and TRV-950s. 16mm Cameras include Bolex prime and zoom kits, Arri BL and CP-16 kits. Digital still cameras include a variety of Nikon Coolpix cameras.

Edit Suites

6 Non-Linear edit suites run Final Cut Pro HD on Macintosh dual-processor G5’s. In addition there are dedicated Avid Xpress Pro and Pro-Tools workstations. Editing suites have dual LCD monitors, DV decks, DVD burners and NTSC monitors. For 16mm film editing there are 3 Steenbeck flatbeds ,an Elmo 16mm telecine projector and a magna-sync mag dubber.

The Studios

A fully integrated control room is at the heart of 2 studio spaces (37’ x 25’ & 19’ x 19’) which may be used for TV production or as soundstages. The studios are fully soundproofed, have chroma key and black cycs and full lighting grids with a variety of fresnel and quartz instruments. The control room is slated for a full digital upgrade in 2006.

The Audio Room

A replica of the control booth at WSIA, students interested in audio production use industry-standard equipment to develop their skills including an Audio Arts R-60 Mixing Board and several ProTools stations for digital mixing.

1P-231 – Digital Communications Lab
Equipped with 20-inch Intel Duo-Core 2.0 GHz iMacs, this lab is used for Communications production classes that focus on print design, web design, typography, digital photography and animation – software currently includes QuarkXpress, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, DreamWeaver and Flash running on the OSX platform. Two additional G4 iMacs are equipped as scanning stations with Epson flatbed scanners. For printing we have HP 4200, HP 4600 and a Xerox 7700 Phaser laser printer

1P-228A – Multimedia Lab Classroom.

An extension of the 223 lab, the 228A lab classroom is designed for use by advanced Media Culture production students. The CPU’s are paired with high resolution LaCie19” CRT monitors for detailed graphics work. Several of the workstations have dedicated NTSC monitors and DV decks and a firewire router enables all stations to access DV media. In addition to the software utilized in the 223 lab these stations are equipped with Final Cut Pro HD, Adobe AfterEffects and DVD Studio Pro.

1P-223 - Screening Room

Cinema theory and history classes utilize a 75-seat screening room which is equipped with an Eiki 16mm projector, An Epson Powerlite 8100i Digital Projector, a Dolby Surround Encoder and a JBL Professional Surround speaker
