The Office
Of Grants and Research has the responsibility for all aspects of grants
information and administration. The Associate Director and Director
serve as a resource in identifying potential funding sources, preparing
proposals and budgets, coordinating with all appropriate college
departments, overseeing compliance with college, university and government
regulations relating to grants, acting as liaison with granting agencies
and protecting the college's interests vis-à-vis grants and
contracts. In addition, the Office oversees post-award administration
of all grants and contracts, serves as a liaison with RF/CUNY for fiscal or
administrative problems, and administers certain institutional grant
accounts.

We
encourage you to search the world’s most comprehensive grant funding
database, the Community of Science (COS),
to which the Research Foundation of CUNY subscribes for each campus. COS is for all disciplines,
including the social sciences and humanities. It provides investigators
with electronic access to search current funding opportunities – over
20,000 of them. You can locate funding for research, collaborative
projects, fellowships, travel, equipment, training grants,
meetings/conferences/seminars, artistic pursuits, publishing, postdocs,
among the many offerings. It is easy to use and available through your
on-campus computer. If you first create a personal account, then you can
access the database remotely. Search results can be saved and shared via
email with colleagues and collaborators.
Simply
follow these directions. Click on COS
which will bring you to the Community of Science homepage (www.cos.com).
Create your free account by clicking on the New User’ tab on the
upper left-hand side of the screen. To search for funding, choose the
‘COS Funding Opportunities‘ tab at the top of the page, then
select the ‘Search COS Funding Opportunities’. The ‘Main
Search’ option gives you the most selections of search criteria from
which to choose. The ‘Search Wizard’ option will help step you
through creating a search.

The
Research Foundation (RF) is a private, not-for-profit educational corporation
chartered by the State of New
York in 1963. RF is responsible for
post-award administration of private and government sponsored programs at
CSI and all of The City University of New York (CUNY). The RF is the
legal employer for all personnel paid on grants and contracts and runs its
own payroll and benefit program. The RF also provides purchasing and
accounts payable services for non-personnel expenditures on grants.
It performs all legal work on sponsored contracts and is responsible for
all accounting functions. For more information on RFCUNY, go to www.rfcuny.org.

Prior to preparing any proposal for external funding, faculty
are required to submit the Pre-Proposal
Checklist (with a one-page project abstract and draft budget) and a Financial Disclosure Form. These can be
printed from this website and then completed by hand. Please return
to the Grants Office, 1A-302 at least two weeks before the proposal is
due at the grantor. An approved Pre-Proposal Checklist and Financial
Disclosure Form must be on file at the Grants Office before your proposal
will be released for submittal.
If you prefer, the forms can be emailed to you in WORD format.
Request a copy at: lutkenhouse@mail.csi.cuny.edu.
NSF's
FastLane
NSF requires electronic
proposal submission for all programs through the use of their online system
FastLane. All required NSF standard proposal forms are prepared via
FastLane. Your proposal can be checked for completion via an institutional
function and subsequently be signed and submitted electronically. PIs can
check the status of submitted proposals, and also create and submit
Progress, and Final Project Reports as required by NSF.
All PIs must be registered to use FastLane. You can register by making the
request to the Office of Grants and Research: you need to provide your
name, Social Security Number, department, phone and fax numbers, degree
earned and year, and a PIN access of at least six characters, with at least
one alpha and one numeric character. For assistance, call the Grants Office
at extension 2254. www.fastlane.nsf.gov/fastlane.jsp
The Research
Foundation/CUNY website features funding opportunities through RF
or CUNY Central, a variety of downloadable forms, RF policies and
procedures for grant administration, and access to Project Investigator's
account financial reports.
