Although a later manuscript (15th century), you can still see what a complex task it was to do construction work. Look at the tools. Many were still in use up through the 18th and 19th centuries. But think of all the beautiful churches, castles, and objects of everyday life (including all these illuminated manuscripts!) that were created with simple tools and natural objects--and enormous imagination and talent.
